AMMAN — The Jordan Labor Watch on Tuesday
called for improving private sector working conditions for women in terms of
both policies and on-the-ground action, to enhance their overall economic
participation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In a position paper issued on the occasion of
International Women's Day, the watchdog, an affiliate of the Phenix Center for
Economic and Informatics Studies, stressed the importance of empowering women
working in Jordan in the organized and unorganized sectors to secure their
rights, in addition to installing basic labor principles and proper work
standards.
On supporting women's home businesses, the paper called for creating a unified entity to run, direct, support, and enhance women's skills to develop their projects and advance their economic participation.
The paper indicated that the rate of women's
economic participation in Jordan has been relatively stable over the past ten
years, reaching 14 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to 53.6
percent for men.
The watchdog recommended a review of
strategies and programs by government institutions and civil society
organizations aimed at enhancing women's economic activity and labor market
participation.
On supporting women's home businesses, the
paper called for creating a unified entity to run, direct, support, and enhance
women's skills to develop their projects and advance their economic
participation.
The paper also recommended enhancing the
public transport system to meet the needs of women so that they can reach their
workplaces easily and safely.
