AMMAN— Director of the Jordan Meteorological Department
(JMD), Raed Al-Khattab announced the conclusion of the last 50 days of winter,
locally referred to as ‘Khamsinieyh,’ for the current rainy season 2023/2024,

Khattab stated that rainfall totals were below
the JMD’s general averages except for the Southern Jordan Valley, which
achieved 116 percent of its general seasonal average, with a total rainfall of
85.0 mm.
Khattab added that with the beginning of the
vernal equinox for 2024, the performance of the rainy season 2023/2024 is
around its general averages and higher in most areas of the kingdom, except for
parts of the southern and eastern regions, pointing out that the average
rainfall amounts and percentages achieved from the general seasonal average in
the kingdom's areas at the beginning of the spring equinox are as follows:
- Northern regions: 378.6 mm, 95 percent of
the general seasonal average.
- Western central regions: 354.9 mm, 85
percent of the general seasonal average.
- Eastern central regions: 127.8 mm, 103
percent of the general seasonal average.
- Eastern regions: 75.7 mm, 81 percent of the
general seasonal average.
- Northern Jordan Valley: 440.0 mm, 113
percent of the general seasonal average.
- Central Jordan Valley: 272.4 mm, 98 percent
of the general seasonal average.
- Southern Jordan Valley: 99.9 mm, 136 percent
of the general seasonal average.
- Southwest regions: 128.1 mm, 55 percent of
the general seasonal average.
- Southern regions: 38.5 mm, 69 percent of the
general seasonal average.
Khattab mentioned that the rainfall of the
last 50 days of winter usually constitutes 37 percent of the general seasonal
average in most areas of the kingdom, while the remaining rainfall from the
beginning of the spring equinox until mid-May constitutes 10 percent of the
general seasonal average in most areas.
