AMMAN — A Jordanian businessman was arrested by Lebanese customs at
the Rafic Hariri International Airport as he was about to leave for
London on a
private plane.

He was found in possession of $3.5 million which he had withdrawn
from a Lebanese bank.
Arrest and confiscationAccording to news sources, the businessman was taken into custody
by
customs officials, and after review, Cassation Public Prosecutor Judge Ghassan Oweidat placed a travel ban on him.
The money was confiscated, and the file was referred to Financial
Public Prosecutor Judge Ali Ibrahim.
Ministerial intervention and alleged involvementReports suggest that a minister in the
Mikati government was trying
to influence the authorities to release the Jordanian and allow him to leave
the country with the money.
There are also suspicions that unidentified parties are involved in
the case.
