The total licensed building area in Jordan for the year 2024 reached 9.03 million square meters, reflecting a 4% decrease compared to 9.41 million square meters in 2023, according to the monthly report by the Department of Statistics released on Monday.

The total number of building permits issued in 2024 was 23,902, slightly down by 1.3% from 24,207 permits in 2023.
Breakdown of Licensed Areas
Residential Purposes: 7.12 million m² (down 8.2% from 7.76 million m² in 2023).
Non-Residential Purposes: 1.91 million m² (up 15.8% from 1.65 million m² in 2023).
Residential buildings accounted for 78.9%, while non-residential buildings constituted 21.1% of the total licensed area.
Regional Distribution
Central Region: 66.9% of the total licensed building area (+0.3% from 2023).
Northern Region: 23% (-6.5% from 2023).
Southern Region: 10.1% (+16.1% from 2023).
Per Capita Licensed Residential Space
Highest: Balqa Governorate (13.5% share, 0.916 m² per person).
Lowest: Mafraq Governorate (4% share, 0.271 m² per person).
New vs. Existing Buildings
New buildings and additions: 62.7% of total licensed area (5.662 million m², down 8.2% from 2023).
Existing buildings: 37.3% of total licensed area.

Licensed building area in December: 902,000 m² (+4.4% compared to November 2024: 864,000 m²).
