This move came during a session chaired by Speaker Ahmed Safadi and attended by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and other government officials. Finance Minister Abdulhakim Shebli delivered a speech outlining the draft budget, after which the deputies began their initial discussion and raised observations on the proposal.
During the session, lawmakers emphasized the urgency of approving the budget before the start of the new year. They called for the introduction of economic measures to address current challenges in Jordan, improve living conditions for citizens, create youth employment opportunities, boost revenue, and increase wages for both civilian and military personnel.
In his remarks, Shibli highlighted that the government was submitting the draft budget within the constitutional timeframe, marking the first budget presented by the current administration. He emphasized that the government aims to reduce the high cost of servicing external debt by replacing expensive loans with more favorable financing options.
Shibli further stated that the reduction of public debt would depend on achieving high economic growth rates, with the budget focusing on financing key and ongoing projects as part of the Economic Modernization Vision.
