AMMAN — The founder of Maan Folklore Group, Abdulrahman Al- Khatib, known as “Abu Khalid Al-Maani”, died Thursday night, at the age of 69, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In press statement, Minister of Culture Ali Al-Ayed said that Maani “was one of the icons of folklore, with a distinguished presence in the various national and Arab celebrations.”
The minister recalled Maani’s “sense of humer, cheerful presence on the stage, and his passion for authentic Jordanian music, particularly the heritage of the Kingdom’s souther region.”
Born in 1952, Maani established the Maan Folklore Group in 1081, and was very active in the volunteering scene, according to Petra.
