AMMAN— Madaba has been declared the Arab
Tourism Capital for 2022 by the Arab Tourism Organization (ATO), according to a
statement from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, which said that the
city had achieved all the benchmarks and terms of reference prepared by the ATO,
the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Tourism Minister
Nayef Al-Fayez said in a statement that
the selection of Madaba as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2022 will contribute to
the revitalization of tourism in the city, in particular, and Jordan in general.
It will also attract investments to various fields, investing in the city's
unique natural, cultural and religious resources, increasing employment
opportunities and reducing unemployment rates.
Fayez explained that the ministry sought to make
Madaba a center for cultural and religious heritage and a center for the most
extraordinary mosaics and handicrafts in the Kingdom.
