The PSD spokesperson said police investigations
identified the perpetrator, who admitted that he barbecued in the area that
day, but that he overlooked to put off the fire before leaving and saw the
flames as he drove off. He will stand trial in an Amman court, the spokesperson
noted.
Sunday’s fire spread over an area of 50 dunums and
in many directions as the wind shifted. It was thought to have started in an
open area of dry grass before reaching wooded patches.
Between 30 and 40 horses from nearby stables escaped to the
main street as thick smoke engulfed their stalls.
