Man dies in Zarqa carpet store fire

Amman –– A man of an Arab nationality died of severe burns Saturday in a fire that engulfed a three-story carpet store in Zarqa, according to the Public Security Directorate.اضافة اعلان

The directorate's media spokesperson said firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the flames. Medics took the dead man to Zarqa Government Hospital.

He also said that dozens of specialized civil defense equipment and fire-fighters from Zarqa, Amman and Mafraq took part in the operation to extinguish the fire, which sent a thick plume of smoke over the area "due to the nature of the flammable materials" present in the store.

An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is being carried out, he added.
