Medical reports and the defendant’s confession revealed that
he intended to commit suicide publicly due to familial disputes.
Reports stated that he allegedly stabbed himself with a
knife before being transported to a hospital by medical personnel.
Public suicide is criminalized in Jordan after a new
provision was introduced to the Penal Code this year. Those convicted of
attempting suicide in a public space face imprisonment for a period not
exceeding six months and a fine not exceeding JD100 or both penalties.
