AMMAN — The
Assistant Secretary-General of the
Ministry of Health for Primary Health Care
Affairs, Dr. Ghazi Sharkas, said the Delta variant infects children, unlike the
original virus, which had a very low infection rate on children, according to
Al Ghad.

He said there
are many infections among young people aged 12 to 18 years because they were
not infected with the original virus, and they still did not take the vaccine that
would have protected them and prevented the spread of virus to others.
Sharkas said
that children under the age of 18 require the presence of their guardian to
receive the vaccination without a prior appointment, and the ministry has a
list that includes vaccination procedures for children between 12 and 18 years
and vaccination centers designated for them.
In an interview
with “Radio Hala”, Sharkas said that the categories identified by the
government who can take the third dose, people over 60 years, health care
workers, and people with chronic diseases, are not required to fill out
vaccination consent forms for taking the third booster dose of the vaccine.
He said that
filling out these papers is limited to people who are not in the specified
categories, and who wish to travel according to the requirements of the
countries they want to travel to, as it requires them to sign vaccination
consent forms for the third dose of the vaccine.
Sharkas said
that the epidemiological situation in Jordan is good, stressing that a large
proportion of daily infections do not require hospitalization, but said that
recently it has been observed that the vaccination rate is lower than usual,
therefore citizens must be encouraged to take the vaccine.
