AMMAN — The Independent Election
Commission (IEC) on Saturday announced March 7 as the deadline for candidates to
withdraw from municipal and provincial council elections, two weeks ahead of
the scheduled poll, according to an IEC statement, carried by the Jordan News
Agency, Petra.

Under executive regulations No. 4 of 2021 on candidacy
for provincial and municipal councils and the Greater Amman Municipality, a
candidate may withdraw candidacy by submitting a written statement to the IEC’s
chief commissioner 14 days before the official date of the vote.
No withdrawal by any
candidate shall be accounted for after the end of this period, and the IEC
shall announce the withdrawal of any candidate on its website, the statement
said.
The IEC Board of Commissioners has set March 22 as Election
Day.
