AMMAN — The director of the Human Rights Unit at the Prime Minister's Office, Khalil Al-Abdallat, held a meeting today, Sunday, as part of a series of consultations held by the government to prepare the national report within the framework of the fourth Universal Periodic Review for Human Rights, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

A summary of the recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review was presented, which addressed enhancing the role of the National Center for Human Rights and building its capabilities.

He clarified that the government, in cooperation with the National Center, worked on preparing the Comprehensive National Plan for Human Rights 2016–2025, and the center undertook the task of consulting with various active sectors from civil society institutions, the government, and national institutions to include the community vision in the plan's themes and sub-goals, and to work on its implementation.

He pointed out that since its inception the center has been in compliance with the Paris Principles for National Human Rights Institutions.

Steady progress
Abdallat added that the Jordanian state has presented the state of human rights annually for three consecutive sessions, where 226 recommendations were directed in the third report in 2018, and 149 recommendations were approved by the Jordanian state, which is concerned with implementing them continuously and in partnership with various relevant entities, including the National Center for Human Rights and civil society institutions.

Jordan has obtained category (A) for all three sessions, indicating its steady progress in the right direction in supporting and improving the human rights situation in Jordan, Abdallat added.

The Chairwoman of the center's Board of Trustees, Samar Al Haj Hassan, pointed out that Jordan has witnessed a set of positive developments in the past four years in order to upgrade the reality of human rights, such as updating the Comprehensive Annual Plan for Human Rights (2016-2025), forming the Royal Committee to update the political system in 2021, launching the Economic Update Vision 2022-2032, launching the roadmap to update the sector for 2022, enacting constitutional amendments for 2022, and a package of legislation regulating political life for 2022. اضافة اعلان
