AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation
Mohamad Najjar, accompanied by US Ambassador Henry T. Wooster, toured several
projects in the Jordan Valley on Sunday to examine water resource conditions
and efforts to improve water management and distribution.

The Jordan News Agency, Petra, said local officials
briefed the minister on efforts underway to reduce water loss, planned projects
to increase operational and maintenance efficiency and lower costs, and water
system capacity.
Najjar was also briefed on the Tilal al-Thahab
Station project, which is being upgraded as part of a $34-million Fixed Amount
Reimbursement Agreement (FARA) activity funded bythe USAID.
He was also briefed on projects that would be
implemented as part of FARA projects in several Jordan Valley areas to improve
water efficiency and reduce water loss.
Najjar met with
college students receiving training to advance their skills through USAID’s
Training and Capacity Building Program while visiting a control center in Deir
Alla.
The minister praised US government assistance for
helping the water sector adapt to and respond to the extraordinary and pressing
problems that have recently arisen in the Kingdom.
The US envoy praised Jordan’s efforts, and the water
sector’s role in addressing challenges, reiterating the country’s commitment to
further support Jordan and expanding cooperation prospects.
