AMMAN — On behalf of
HRH Crown Prince Hussein, Minister of Tourism and Aantiquities
Nayef Al-Fayez on Monday launched the first phase of a project to rehabilitate a Christian pilgrimage trail in Mount Nebo, Madaba.

Fayez said that the project is one of the most prominent touristic and religious monuments in
Madaba, and it aims to provide basic services to visitors and promote tourism products in the city.
The minister emphasized the importance of the urban and historical legacy of Madaba.
Tourism Ministry Secretary General Emad Hijazeen explained that the project will be done in several phases, including the development of a 29.8km Christian pilgrimage route, creating more investment opportunities and the preparation for a site promotion and marketing plan.
The launch of the project comes in conjunction with World Tourism Day, and Madaba winning the title of Capital of Arab Tourism for 2022.
Fayez also received the key to Madaba during the ceremony declaring Madaba as the capital of Arab tourism on Monday, in the city center, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The minster commended the efforts of the local community and those related to the development of the city of Madaba. During the ceremony, which was marked by a number of events reflecting the city’s cultural and religious heritage, Fayez congratulated the people of Madaba on this achievement.
