The project, unveiled Sunday, was attended by Cecile Toupiol, Chief of Party of USAID's Building Water Infrastructure Program, along with key officials from the water sector, and representatives from the major water companies, including Miyahuna, Aqaba, and Yarmouk, as well as USAID staff.
This initiative is designed to improve the efficiency of water distribution and help meet the water sector’s strategic goals, particularly by reducing water loss.
In a statement, Wael Duwairi, Secretary-General of the Water Authority, highlighted the importance of the partnership with USAID and the opportunity to leverage modern technology to tackle the Kingdom’s growing water challenges.
He emphasized the need to strengthen technical and operational capabilities to ensure better services for citizens while addressing water scarcity issues.
Duwairi further discussed the crucial role of digital transformation in the sector, noting that the project will provide real-time data to monitor and manage the Kingdom's water systems remotely, improving operational control across all water sources.
He commended USAID’s ongoing support for the water sector, especially in efforts to reduce water loss and enhance water supply systems. The project will introduce advanced technological solutions to increase efficiency, improve resource management, and secure the country's water supply in the face of increasing demand and limited resources.
Cecile Tobill shared insights on the three-year project, which will focus on improving water source monitoring, reducing losses, speeding up response times, and cutting operational costs.
Additionally, the project will assess the sector’s needs to develop a unified and secure SCADA system, ensuring efficient and equitable water distribution based on real-time data for better network management.
