Hneifat said in a
press statement that the Prime Ministry approved the use of Treasury land in
the Hammad and Sarhan basins for agricultural purposes, which will provide
investment opportunities for agricultural companies on a 36,000-acre area.
Hneifat said that investments may be done on at
least a 1,000-acre plot of land, and that investors are given a set of incentives,
including favorable water prices and fast-track investment approvals, in
addition to incentives the agricultural sector is granted by the investment and
income tax act.
The minister added
that investment in this project should entail efficient use of agricultural
techniques and irrigation water, pilot projects, and strategies to ensure food
security, in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The investments should also secure job opportunities for Jordanian communities
in their neighborhood.
Hneifat stressed
that the envisaged investment opportunities will boost Jordan’s food security,
increase the production of strategic crops and Jordanian agricultural exports,
and create job opportunities for unemployed young men and women.
