Ministry of Agriculture Warns of Frost and Urges Precautions
The Ministry of Agriculture has urged farmers to take necessary precautions in anticipation of possible frost, heavy rains, and strong winds in the coming period. The ministry advised farmers to close agricultural greenhouses tightly after noon to retain maximum heat and to irrigate crops to mitigate the effects of frost. They also emphasized the importance of conducting necessary maintenance on plastic covers and securing them to prevent them from being blown away.اضافة اعلان

The ministry encouraged farmers to follow weather forecasts and visit the official Ministry of Agriculture website (www.moa.gov.jo) for more information or to contact agricultural extension departments in provinces and districts.

Additionally, the ministry called on sheep breeders to cover barns, doors, and windows with plastic to maintain appropriate temperatures inside the barns, as well as placing newborns in securely enclosed areas to protect them from the cold and strong drafts. They also advised against grazing near flood channels and valleys.

The ministry also recommended that cattle be moved to closed stables or shaded barns during severe cold and snow, ensuring that newborn calves are protected from drafts and placed in dry, clean areas.

For poultry breeders, the ministry suggested providing heating inside chicken coops to maintain the proper temperature while ensuring good ventilation. They also advised conducting necessary maintenance to prevent water from entering the coops and to avoid exposing them to drafts.

Finally, the ministry urged beekeepers to tightly seal the hive covers, avoid opening them during rainy weather, strong winds, and frost, and to warm the hives by grouping them together, placing straw bales around them, narrowing the hive entrance, and providing the bees with sugar-based feeding. They also recommended combining weak colonies and relocating the hives away from flood channels and valleys.
