The report was launched during a ceremony at the Jordan Health Forum, under the patronage of Minister of Health Dr. Firas Al-Hawari.
The event was opened on his behalf by Dr. Raed Al-Shboul, the Ministry's Secretary-General for Primary Health Care and Epidemics, as part of the national efforts to develop the infection control program and combat antimicrobial resistance.
The event was attended by representatives from various Ministry of Health departments, the National Center for Epidemics and Infectious Diseases, public and private sector partners, and the World Health Organization.
The assessment was conducted in 2024 with support from the Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) Program funded by USAID, aiming to evaluate the current infection control practices in dental clinics and identify challenges faced by service providers.
The report also provides recommendations to enhance adherence to these procedures and ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe medical services to patients.
Dr. Al-Shboul stated that announcing the results of the national assessment of infection prevention and control procedures in dental clinics marks a pivotal step towards achieving the Ministry of Health’s vision of improving the safety of both patients and healthcare workers, and ensuring the delivery of healthcare services of the highest quality in line with global standards.
He added that infection prevention and control measures are essential to ensuring the sustainability of the healthcare system and its ability to face various health challenges. Given the increasing global health challenges, such as the rapid spread of antimicrobial-resistant microbes and emerging infectious diseases, it is essential to work collaboratively at all levels to protect patients, healthcare workers, and the community as a whole.
Dr. Al-Shboul emphasized that this assessment aims to shed light on the current state of the health sector, providing accurate and comprehensive insights into the application of health practices in the field of dentistry.
It also highlights existing opportunities and challenges, which will enable the formulation of improvement plans and the development of effective policies to protect both patients and healthcare workers.
Bethany Haberer, Director of the Population and Family Health Office at USAID, stressed the importance of the partnership between the Ministry and the Agency in improving public health. She highlighted that preventing and controlling infections is the cornerstone of providing safe and effective healthcare and is essential to protecting both patients and healthcare providers.
One of the main recommendations is the development of a national guide for infection control policies and procedures in healthcare centers and clinics.
The Ministry of Health has already begun working on this with support from the MTaPS Program, with plans to launch it in the first quarter of 2025.
This assessment is part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services and ensure patient safety.
It coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Jordan and the United States, which has been marked by significant partnerships and support for healthcare systems in the Kingdom.
