In a press release issued on Sunday, the ministry's undersecretary
for primary
health care and epidemiology, Raed Shboul, stated that the ministry
is constantly following up on any developments related to
viruses and epidemics in general in order to deal with them.
MVD, a rare but severe hemorrhagic fever that affects both people
and non-human primates, is a
zoonotic disease transmitted to people through
infected animals such as monkeys and fruit bats.
According to the
World Health Organization, the virus has only been
detected in Tanzania and Equatorial Guinea.
Shboul further explained that the issue of MVD will top the agenda
of the next meeting of the Jordanian National Committee for Epidemics.
MVD, a rare but severe hemorrhagic fever that affects both people and non-human primates, is a zoonotic disease transmitted to people through infected animals such as monkeys and fruit bats.
Shboul noted that infected humans can spread the Marburg virus to
other humans through the
exchange of blood or body fluids such as respiratory
droplets, urine, sweat, saliva, semen, feces, vomit, and breast milk, through
broken skin or mucous membranes. As such, it is important to take all necessary
precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
