AMMAN — The
spokesperson of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research,
Muhannad Al-Khatib, has stated that the decision made by the Higher Education
Council to raise the minimum GPA requirements for students pursuing medical and
dental specialties in foreign universities (outside Jordan) is aimed at
ensuring that students meet the necessary academic standards before enrolling
in these institutions.

Khatib
further explained that private Jordanian universities have been exempted from
the GPA requirement increase, with their admission standards remaining at 90
percent, Jo24 reported. This exception is due to the fact that private
universities in Jordan are under the direct supervision of the Ministry.
Additionally,
admission for medical and dental students in these private institutions has
been restricted, with 40 percent of slots allocated for Jordanian students and
60 percent for foreign students.
He
emphasized that the ministry is closely monitoring the admission process for
medical and dental students in private universities. They will strictly enforce
the specified admission percentages as per the licenses granted to these
institutions.
