AMMAN — The
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Harmony Investment Company signed a memorandum of
understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to explore the potential of harnessing the
Risha Gas Field's geothermal energy for power generation and use in industrial
operations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Minister Saleh Al-Kharabsheh and Harmony
CEO Khalil Abu Al-Rubb signed the MoU. The
National Petroleum Company (NPC) was
also a party to the agreement.
Repurposing unproductive wellsIn a statement, Kharabsheh said the deal
allows
Harmony Investment Company to study unproductive gas wells in the Risha
field and convert them for geothermal energy production.
Global expertise will also be leveraged in
the process through conducting technical, financial, and administrative
studies, he said.
The targeted area has a very high ground
temperature gradient at a depth of 2,500 meters, NPC Director-General
Mohammed Khasawneh said, adding that the NPC will cooperate with Harmony to explore
geothermal energy production.
