AMMAN – The
Ministry of Industry and Trade has
requested telecom companies to halt adjustments to prepaid line tariffs. This
encompasses actions like imposing
operational charges on consumption-based
lines, raising existing tariffs with internet packages, and applying them to
current subscribers.

In a press release on Thursday, the ministry
urged companies to review the application of new offers, letting current
subscribers choose between their existing plans or newly introduced options,
the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
Competition Law
The Ministry stated its intent to employ legal
measures outlined in the Competition Law. A study by the Competition
Directorate showed that the behavior of mobile phone companies led to increased
prices for
prepaid mobile services, limiting subscribers' choice to keep their
plans or switch.
Notably, the
Competition Law strictly prohibits practices that
hinder competition, with legal consequences for activities that fix prices,
service fees, sales conditions, and similar actions.
