AMMAN — Member of the National Committee for Epidemiology, Bassam Hijjawi, said on Friday that there are diseases that have begun to revitalize and trouble the world, including monkeypox, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.اضافة اعلان

Hijjawi told Al-Mamlaka that this virus is not only found in monkeys, but it is dangerous because it can transfer from wild animals to humans. Hijjawi added, “this is not a new disease, as it is a type of smallpox virus.”

“The smallpox virus was eradicated from the world, and the World Health Organization declared a certificate of eradication of smallpox in 1980," according to Hijjawi.

So far, a vaccine has not yet been developed for monkeypox, Hijjawi confirmed, indicating that its clinical and epidemiological symptoms are clear.

“The virus can transmit from one person to another, and at most seven consecutive cases need to exist for the transmission to take place since the incubation period is long, starting with fever and blood infection or the lymph nodes, then it causes a rash on the face that is clear in 95% of the cases.” Hijjawi contended.

According to the WHO website, the monkeypox virus is transmitted to humans from various wild animals, but its spread at the secondary level is limited to its transmission from one person to another.
