AMMAN — The NATO summit, held in Vilnius, expressed plans on Tuesday
to enhance communication within the Middle East and Africa region. Towards
those aims, the alliance and Jordanian authorities will discuss the possibility
of establishing a
NATO liaison office in the capital, Amman.

According to the summit statement, "The
Middle East and Africa are strategically important regions, and we will work to deepen our
political and diplomatic communication with our partners in the Mediterranean
Dialogue and the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative.”
“We will also increase our engagement with relevant regional
organizations, including the African Union and the
Gulf Cooperation Council."
Further discussions
The alliance affirmed its continued commitment to supporting
Iraq and its ability to achieve stability; and praised the ongoing efforts and
progress made by the Iraqi government and security forces in combating Daesh.
The summit also expressed its growing worries over nuclear
escalation with Iran. Finally, they continued to discuss Ukraine’s pending
membership into NATO.
