Delivered in partnership with the MoSD, the "Champions Training" aims to equip participants with the knowledge, tools and practical skills required to plan and lead an holistic plan for moving a person with a disability from a residential center to their community, according to a NI-CO statement.

The course underlined the importance of proper management of De-I, the process of transforming care for persons with disabilities and giving the floor to the participants who worked in groups to share their experience to identify the resources and capacity needed to ensure the De-I process is properly managed.

NI-CO Resident Expert on De-I John Black said, "The four-day training is a milestone in the process of De-I in Jordan. The clear commitment of the attendees from HCD, MoSD and our NI-CO colleagues to the process of De-I in Jordan is very evident."

"The support of MoSD Deputy Secretary-General Bashar Dalaeen gave further impetus to the process through his evident commitment and full support to those attending and the wider work and the national effort," the statement added.

Khalid Ma’aita of the MoSD De-I Unit said, "The Champions Training was of great importance to the attendees in terms of including and finding the most appropriate alternatives for persons with disabilities," explaining that persons with disabilities are an "integral part of society."

LUMOS Senior Technical Advisor on De-I and International expert with NI-CO Bisser Spirov shared Bulgaria’s De-I journey, successes and challenges, highlighting the key services needed that support the process of moving a person with a disability from residential centers to community-based care.
"Many countries are implementing similar projects and there is evidence about what is working and what could be challenging. I wanted to share these experiences with our champions in Jordan," said Bisser.

The course was interactive and focused on live examples and group discussions. The highly engaging participants discussed case studies and each shared their opinion on the best alternative and placement for individual cases.

NI-CO is an implementer of the "EU Social Protection Program in Jordan," which supports the Ministry in implementing the objectives and priorities in Jordan’s National Strategy for Social Protection (2019-2025).
