The source added to Jo24 in a report on Saturday
that the coalitions that applied to obtain bid copies have made a field tour
last Sunday of the project’s area in preparation for submitting financial
offers.
The source said that the government will announce
all details related to the project and the first stages of implementation on
Independence Day, noting that Prime Minister
Bisher Al-Khasawneh will unveil a
set of strategic projects on that day.
Minister of State for Media Affairs Faisal
Al-Shboul, who is also the government spokesperson, said earlier that among the
projects that will be announced are the National Carrier, the new
administrative city project, and others.
The
Aqaba-Amman desalination and water transport
project is a strategic project and a top priority to provide the Kingdom’s
population of 11 million with drinking water at about 300 million cubic meters
of desalinated water annually.
The project includes an intake plant to be based on
the southern shore of Aqaba, a desalination and pumping station in Aqaba, and a
450-kilometre pipe line.
Last April it was announced that donors had pledged
$1.830 billion in grants and loans. The project’s initial cost is estimated at
JD2 billion.
