Minister of Water and Irrigation
Mohammad Najjar said on Wednesday that the National Water Carrier Project is
“making major headway” in terms of technicalities and tender development, and
that the bid for it is expected to be forwarded to prequalified consortiums by
mid-March, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The minister’s remarks came a day after a meeting
with potential international financiers at the
Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. He said that prospective bidders will submit their
bids in August as a final step before financial closure.
According to Najjar, Tuesday’s meeting was
“productive and constructive”, and the participants “expressed willingness to
provide all forms of support in different ways” to enable Jordan to implement
this national project that will supply 300 million cubic meters of water
annually to all governorates of the Kingdom.
The minister said
that the Islamic Investment Bank, the European Investment Bank, Germany’s
KfW Development Bank, the US International Development Finance Corporation, the
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the French Development
Agency, the International Finance Corporation, the German Bank for
International Cooperation, and other institutions participated in the meeting.
