AMMAN — The
Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, in partnership with the
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has released the results of a national project that evaluates
the readiness of public sector institutions for
artificial intelligence (AI).

As part of the project, 18 artificial intelligence teams
comprising government agency employees were formed to promote awareness within
each government institution, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Additionally, over 3,000 public servants participated in 45
workshops aimed at increasing their understanding of AI. The project also aimed
to identify gaps and challenges that hinder the implementation of AI within
each organization, resulting in 18 detailed reports.
Emphasizing the importance of AI in digital transformation
Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship
Ahmad Hanandeh who presided over the ceremony, acknowledged the concerns surrounding AI
technology and its unpredictable future.
Nevertheless, he underscored the significance of AI in the
digital transformation process and its potential for various sectors.
National strategy for AI development
Hanandeh announced that the ministry has taken
responsibility for developing a national strategy for AI. The objective is to
leverage this technology in the public sector and government institutions to
enhance citizen services and overall efficiency.
The ministry aims to publish the project's findings tomeasure AI readiness and facilitate collaboration among the public, private,
academic, and donor sectors. This collaboration will help secure funding and
implement the recommended projects outlined in the evaluation.
Wakui Junji, chief representative of the JICA Jordan Office,
expressed his delight in sharing the evaluation results.
The evaluation seeks to establish a strong foundation
capable of accommodating the advancement of emerging technologies. It aims to
facilitate the seamless implementation of artificial intelligence and other
technology-based projects and services, both presently and in the future.
