AMMAN — The Director of the traffic operations department of
the
Greater Amman Municipality, Mohammad Al-Faouri, said on Wednesday that
the municipality is working on painting road markings, pedestrian crossings,
enhancing traffic signs, pedestrian bridges, and introducing new traffic
signals as the implementation of the new traffic law approaches.

Faouri pointed out that all locations designated for
pedestrian crossings will be equipped, and the locations of the new traffic
signals will be announced later. He emphasized that the municipality is
continuously working on preparing and rehabilitating all measures that ensure
road safety even before the new traffic law.
All to alleviate traffic
He added that they aim to strengthen and increase speed
monitoring cameras, not only for the purpose of issuing violations but also to
enhance road safety and provide statistical information for traffic studies and
understanding road conditions to help citizens determine which routes to take.
He noted that all of these measures aim to alleviate traffic
congestion challenges and evaluate technical solutions such as cameras and
others to improve traffic monitoring and respond to conditions to enhance
transportation.
The new traffic law, which goes into effect on the twelfth
of the current month, imposes stricter penalties for several violations that
pose a danger to road users, including increased fines and imprisonment
penalties for violations.
