AMMAN —
Minister of interior, Mazen Al-Farrayeh, said on
Wednesday that the amended draft for the traffic law of 2023 came in response
to a significant increase in accidents and injuries.

He stated that the total
number of accidents that occurred
in 2022 was 169,000 accidents, Al-Saa News reported.
During a session of the
House of Representatives, he added
that infrastructure is "crucial in reducing traffic accidents, but we must
not stop making any amendments to the law because the infrastructure is not
ready yet."
Farrayeh believes that the
number of traffic accidents has
reached a critical point that requires action.
Regarding the number of accidents in 2023, he said that
until now, there have been 6,331 accidents with human injuries.
Accident reportsFarrayeh said, "The accidents that involved
human injuries amounted to 11,510 accidents, with 17,096 people injured in these
accidents in 2022, and the number of fatalities in 2022 was 562 people."
He also mentioned that 90,000 people ran red lights in 2022,
and 50,000 people have been fined for driving on the opposite lane.
