AMMAM — The Ministry of Health said it will
not provide medical support at the upcoming municipal and provincial council
elections due to a shortage of medical and nursing staff at public hospitals in
light of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.
A letter signed by Minister of Health Feras Al-Hawari
to Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Khaled Al-Kalalda, stated that assigning medical staff to the
elections, scheduled for March 22, will increase the burden on the public
health sector, which currently faces a severe shortage of staff due to the pandemic.
The IEC has decided to hold elections for the Greater Amman Municipality, as well as municipal and provincial councils, on March 22.
