“What is
circulating about a new tax is untrue,” Abu Ali told a meeting with social
media geeks and influencers. He said that the income and sales tax department
is an executive branch of government, which implements state mandates.
The department
stated earlier that all social media influencers, or anyone who generates
revenues from social media is subject to the law, be it the income tax law, or
the general tax law on sales.
The
department had called on all
social media activists, who make money from their
activity on social media to voluntarily declare their status and income to
avoid fines, or legal measures against them.
Article 3 of
Income Tax Law number 34 of the year 2014 stipulates that any income generated
in the Kingdom, or earned by any person therein shall be subject to tax
regardless of the place of payment.
