AMMAN — The President of the National Center for Cyber
Security, Bassam Al-Muharramah, denied on Monday that Jordanian citizens were
being spied on via their mobile phones.

He highlighted that the code circulating (#21#) to know if a
phone is being hacked or spied upon is not relevant, Alsaa reported.
Moreover, he added that the code is global and not specific
to the Kingdom, and it is used by telecommunications companies for call
forwarding, in addition to being used in various call center services.
In a widely publicized video, it highlighted that if you
enter the code (*#62#), it will display a phone number that some claim is
spying on your phone. However, according to Muharramah, this number belongs to
a telecommunications company regarding call forwarding.
The video also highlighted that (#21#) is able to identify
phone hackers, but it was also denied as an untruthful statement by Muharramah.
