AMMAN — Despite an increase in
COVID-19 cases in schools, which stood at around 700 cases last week, the
Ministry of Education assured that there will be no decision to return to online education, according to Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs Najwa Qbailat at the Education Ministry.

On average, the positivity rate in schools since the start of the school year has been less than 0.4 percent, including both students and teachers, Al-Mamlaka TV reported in October.
Furthermore, daily COVID-19 cases ranged between 165 and 200 at schools.
However, even with the increase, the secretary-general for educational affairs at the ministry, Nawaf Al-Ajarmeh, stressed to
Jordan News that face-to-face education will continue at all schools in the Kingdom.
“All students are provided with necessary medical supplies, including masks and sterilization tools,” Ajarmeh stressed. “Since we returned to in-person learning, the ministry has dealt with large numbers of students — more than a million — and the rate of COVID-19 cases is within the general average.”
“In-person learning was only suspended in two schools; one governmental and the other affiliated with the
UNRWA, in which the percentage of cases in these two schools exceeded 10 percent,” he said, stressing that the two schools will return to face-to-face education soon.
A source at the Ministry of Health, who spoke to
Jordan News on condition of anonymity, said: “What is fabricated on social media platforms about closing schools or suspending education is not true,” stressing that both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education are not even considering this step neither in the short nor long run.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Education constantly follows up on the epidemiological situation inside schools by appointing a school health supervisor in each school who checks on the health status of students.
The Education Ministry, in cooperation with the
Ministry of Health, also conducts random PCR examinations in all schools of the Kingdom to ensure the safety of all students.
