AMMAN — Figures issued by the British
General Medical Council (GMC) revealed a significant increase in the number of
Jordanian doctors moving to the UK between 2017 and 2021, according to GMC’s
“The state of medical education and practice in the
UK: The workforce report
2022” report, seen by

According to the report, 38 Jordanian doctors moved
from Jordan to the UK in 2017; the number had increased by 471 percent in 2021,
reaching 217.
In 2018, 53 Jordanian doctors joined the workforce
in the UK; the figure jumped to 109 in 2019, and rose to 113 in 2020.
According to the report, the rise in the number of
Jordanian doctors moving to work in UK was the highest compared to other
nationalities.
Statistics show that Jordanians rank fourth in the
world and first in the Arab world in the number of doctors working in the UK,
at 427 doctors.
The number of joiners from
China, Sudan and Egypt,
for example, tripled (221 percent, 208 percent and 202 percent respectively)
between 2017 and 2021, while there was nearly a five-fold increase in the
number of doctors who joined from Jordan (471 percent).
Canadian doctors topped the list of joining doctors, with
2,662, followed by those from India and Pakistan.
