According to
Obeidat, ministers’ statements about the need to change consumption patterns is
an indication of the government’s failure to control the market. He added that
Jordan is self-sufficient in vegetables and poultry and that “the current
prices are a scandal”.
Obeidat stressed
that some three importers in Jordan control the import of plant oil, contending
that the rise in prices in the country ranges from 22 to 60 percent compared to
the global market, which is not acceptable and that, as a result, the
Industry Ministry must take action.
He added that the
government has the duty to protect the people, also saying that some statements
about the international rise in prices are not accurate and that NSCP has
studies to prove that.
