This concern was raised by the Lower House Legal Committee
in a meeting on Wednesday, according to a local media outlet.
Majali further highlighted that this statistic is a negative
indicator of and reflects on the services provided to inmates.
AmendmentsMajali also announced that the suspension of debtors' imprisonment
orders, which was previously mandated by Defense Order No. 28, will come to an
end on the coming Sunday.
As part of the announcement, the Defense Order will be
amended to state that the execution of detention orders issued under the
Enforcement Law can only be postponed if the amount does not exceed JD20,000,
as opposed to the previous limit of JD100,000.
The amendment also affects the suspension of the
implementation of criminal sentences that involve imprisonment for issuing a
check without sufficient funds.
The suspension will apply only if the total value of the
checks does not exceed JD20,000.
