MP Ahmed Al-Sarrahna, head of the Lower House’s Parliamentary Health Committee said “The vaccine will not be compulsory for school students, but rather an option for parents to allow their children to take it. He stressed that the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom is reassuring because the number of infections in schools is less than 1 percent.”

Sarrahna added that international studies on vaccinating students were conducted during a short time and in an emergency situation.
Some teachers recently spoke with Jordan News about unvaccinated students returning to the classroom unvaccinated.

Rabaa Shhab, a teacher at Mutah School for Girls, previously told Jordan News that despite the teachers having received both doses of the vaccine and following the health protocols, she felt as though teachers are still exposed to risks in the classroom due to the possibility of getting a breakaway COVID-19 infection, especially with the increasing number of cases in the Kingdom.

“In our school, several students were infected, and they were sent home to isolate themselves, and this atmosphere of anxiety and fear created a lack of trust in the classroom,” she said.

Director of the School Health Department at the Ministry of Education, Samar Batarseh, told Jordan News at the time that giving vaccinations to students is the parent’s choice and that the ministry can only encourage students and parents to take it as the best solution to continuing face-to-face education.

She stressed that the number of students who have received the vaccine at private and public schools stands around 120,000, while the number of teachers who received the vaccine has reached more than 95 percent.
