AMMAN —
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh said on Monday that
oil production at the Hamza oil field has reached 500 barrels per day, adding
that Jordan consumes approximately 150,000 barrels of oil per day, According to
Al-Mamlaka TV.

“Jordan is
divided into 10 exploratory areas, and today we are working in one of these
areas,” he said referring to Hamza oil field. “There are three sites in the
area … in Al-Jafr, where we started exploratory drilling, and we still have to
dig in the two other areas,” Kharabsheh added.
In regard to the oil production, he said: “I wrote
to the prime minister, when I was minister of energy and mineral resources in
2017 regarding the issue of rehabilitating the Hamza oil field. And the Cabinet
approved of its wells through the
National Petroleum Company, and assigned it
this work.”
He added that there is also an operating consultancy
firm helping the National Petroleum Company evaluate the reserves in the Hamza
oil field, and there will be a future plan to develop it.
