The Prime Minister, accompanied by Minister of Agriculture Engineer Khaled Hneifat, participated with nearly 200 young men and women from Maan in planting trees at Maan University College, as part of the government's efforts to expand forested areas and green spaces to combat desertification.
In addition to the central celebration in Maan, Arbor Day events began in all governorates of the Kingdom, where tens of thousands of trees were planted.
The celebrations involved governors, heads of government departments, associations, voluntary groups, and students.
This initiative is part of a sustainable agricultural plan that includes afforestation in artificial forests and along roadways, aiming to promote the culture of tree planting and preserve the Kingdom's forestry resources.
Minister of Agriculture Engineer Khaled Hneifat emphasized that the government has worked to translate the royal interest in the agricultural sector and expanding green spaces.
In 2024, the ministry planted one million trees as part of a sustainable plan using treated water, in collaboration with official entities, international organizations, and local communities.
He noted that the ministry's plan for 2025 includes planting one million carob trees in Irbid and establishing a carob processing factory that will benefit the local community.
Additionally, the plan involves afforestation in various locations in central and southern Jordan, including the planting of new forests and the development of tree planting along major roads with economically viable tree species.
Furthermore, the ministry has started developing forest nurseries and using modern techniques to increase seedling production to five million high-quality seedlings annually, generating economic returns.
The government's plan includes planting four million forest trees over the next four years, which will increase the Kingdom's forested areas by 110,000 dunums.
