AMMAN —
Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the
Independent Election Commission(IEC) Khaled Al-Kalaldeh said that the number of requests by political party
members for the governorate and municipal council elections has amounted to

The IEC has received candidacy
applications over a period of three days. Applications selection can be a
lengthy process, as each application is reviewed the IEC staff, and is then
referred to the board of commissioners to make individual decisions on the applications
individually. He said that until Friday
decisions were reached on applications from five governorates and that some
applications did not meet the requirements.
Concerned candidates,
whose applications did not meet the requirements, were notified of the IEC
decision to enable them to object at the courts, according to
Kalaldeh. The
final list of candidates will be announced once the revision process has been
completed, he said.
Kalaldeh said that
there are 100 municipalities, in addition to Amman, divided into 409
constituencies, 16 of which were decided by acclamation. He said those who succeeded to run for the
elections by acclamation will be announced at the end of elections, together
with the other winning contestants. He said the IEC’s decisions are subject to
objection before the competent courts but not subject to appeals
Kalaldeh said that
based on the recent constitutional amendments the IEC law requires certain
amendments related to political parties.
