A mass, led by Jordan’s Greek
Orthodox Archbishop Christophoros Atallah, was held during the pilgrimage
ceremony, alongside various religious officials, ministers, diplomats, and
other dignitaries.
During the mass, Archbishop
Christophoros said: "Today, at this sacred place, we bear a national and
historical spiritual responsibility. With the
baptism of Jesus Christ in the
Jordan River, we as Jordanian Christians have a great responsibility to
establish and preserve our presence in our Holy country.”
“We invite everyone today to visit
and seek blessings from this place where Jesus Christ walked,” he added.
According to Christian beliefs, Theophany
marks the revelation of Jesus Christ as the son of God through his baptism and
the beginning of his public ministry.
