AMMAN — Jordan has commenced the evacuation of its citizens
from Sudan, in line with royal directives, according to the Jordan News Agency,
Petra.
The operation began on Saturday and is being overseen by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, in collaboration with the UAE and
Saudi Arabia.
According to Sinan Majali, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the evacuation will involve more than 300
Jordanians.
He also stated that there is a constant, ongoing cooperation
with the UAE and Saudi Arabia in order to facilitate the smooth evacuation of Jordanian citizens from Sudan.
Clashes between rival factions in Sudan have led to the
deaths of hundreds of people. The conflict pits forces loyal to army chief
Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan against those loyal to his deputy-turned-rival, Mohamed
Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Witnesses reported heavy gunfire, loud explosions, and the
roar of fighter jets in several areas of the capital on Saturday morning.
The fighting went into a second week Saturday breaking a
truce previously agreed on.
