Owais stated during the launch that the maintenance
segment was developed to complement the GIS, which was first implemented in
2016 with support from UNESCO, and to link it with the educational management
information system for optimal planning of the ministry’s schools and resources
at all administrative levels.
Owais drew attention to the need to simplify
maintenance procedures at schools to minimize implementation time, stressing
the need to train and empower teachers on the use of technology to enable them
to carry out such activities.
He indicated that the ministry will complete the
implementation of the plan in 42 educational directorates and 4,002 public
schools by the end of June 2022.
Owais expressed his appreciation to UNESCO and GIZ
for their continued support of the ministry’s development plans and programs.
UNESCO Representative to Jordan Min Jeong Kim
congratulated minister Owais on the launch of the smart schools GIS maintenance
plan, which will increase the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of
applications for school maintenance in Jordan.
The launch included an overview and introduction of
the school maintenance segment, and a model of school maintenance automation,
as well as how the idea will be mainstreamed across the Kingdom.
