According to Dmitry Medlev, Oxfam's country director in Jordan, the situation for refugees in the country, especially Syrian refugees, remains critical, and they continue to require assistance and support to fulfill their basic necessities, a press statement said.

Recent vulnerability assessments have underscored the urgent need for life-saving aid among the vast majority of Syrian refugees in Jordan.

Vital aid to refugees ‘should never be negotiable’
Medlev emphasized that vital aid to refugees should never be negotiable or subject to fluctuations. Highlighting that shirking funding and the inability to aid refugees in Jordan will not only exacerbate the challenges faced by both host and refugee communities but also impede their ability to meet basic needs like food and shelter. The situation demands immediate action to address these pressing issues.

Meanwhile, the UNHCR's polls reveal that 90 percent of refugee households are burdened with debt, and 77 percent of Syrian refugees report a worsening financial situation. A recent UNHCR study highlighted that a staggering 66 percent of refugees are living below the poverty line of just $5.5 per person per day, making it evident that alternative solutions and increased support are urgently required.

Oxfam in Jordan joins the Minister of Foreign Affairs' call to reverse the cuts and stresses that ensuring the wellbeing of refugees is a global responsibility. support and care for these vulnerable populations.
