During the meeting, the premier highlighted the
government’s efforts and measures to create a dope-free sports environment, in
cooperation with concerned global and local authorities.
Khasawneh said HRH Prince Faisal bin Hussein, the
Jordan Olympic Committee president, endeavors to promote the value of Jordanian
sports and works with partners to “uphold international Olympic values”.
Jordan is committed to creating anti-doping
legislation, which would lift it from class two to class one on WADA’s code
compliant country list, he indicated.
Banka said that
the cooperation of the
Jordan Olympic Committee with the agency has led to it
achieving a class-two country rank on the list, the highest ranking a country
with no anti-doping legislation can get.
He stressed the significant role that the Jordan
Anti-Doping Organization plays in the region, and said that the Kingdom and
five other regional countries are part of the West Asia Regional Anti-Doping
Organization.
Jordan was one of the first countries to sign the
UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport, he noted.
