Prime Minister Jafar Hassan underscored the strategic importance of Mafraq Governorate, citing its diverse economic potential, geographic advantage, and key border location.

Chairing a Cabinet session in Mafraq on Tuesday, attended by representatives of elected councils and civil institutions, the Prime Minister stated that the meeting aimed to outline a development vision for the governorate. He stressed the need for a unified approach to setting goals and ensuring efficient implementation within available resources.
Hassan highlighted that over the past decade, Mafraq has borne a significant impact from the influx of Syrian refugees. He reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to treating refugees in accordance with the country’s values and humanitarian principles. Expressing hope for a voluntary and safe return of Syrians to their homeland, he reiterated Jordan’s continued support for Syria’s stability and progress.
On the economic front, Hassan emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing investment in the King Hussein Bin Talal Development Area by bolstering industrial competitiveness and improving logistical, shipping, and transportation facilities. He announced that the government will complete the gas supply project to the area by 2027, a move expected to lower production costs, boost competitiveness, and attract further investment.
Additionally, the government will grant approvals for 10 megawatts of solar energy to power factories in the development area, fostering expansion and investment opportunities. He also revealed that one million Jordanian dinars have been allocated this year to construct a tunnel on the road in Thaghrat Al-Jub, with an additional one million dinars allocated for its completion next year.
During a visit to several factories before the Cabinet session, Hassan praised the success of industrial ventures in Mafraq, pledging continued government support to sustain their growth.
He further announced plans to establish a public park spanning 200 dunums near Al al-Bayt University, offering green spaces and recreational facilities for families. Construction will commence immediately, with Hassan extending gratitude to the university for allocating the land.
Recognizing Mafraq’s agricultural advancements, Hassan reiterated the government’s support for the sector, emphasizing its role in economic growth, food security, and job creation. He outlined various initiatives, including the expansion of agricultural food factories, support for cooperatives, specialized training programs, and dedicated land allocations for youth and retirees.
In addressing water resource management, the Prime Minister revealed that the Cabinet has approved regulations for licensing unregistered wells used for agriculture, with clear guidelines to be issued by the Ministry of Water. He also noted the completion of the basalt basin rehabilitation project by 2026, securing additional water resources at a cost of JD 14.5 million.
On healthcare improvements, Hassan announced maintenance work at Northern Badia Hospital and plans to establish an emergency and ambulance department at Mafraq Governmental Hospital, alongside other health sector projects.
He also inaugurated the new Mafraq Municipality building, expressing hope that it would enhance service delivery for residents.
Touching on regional developments, Hassan reaffirmed Jordan’s resilience, stressing that the nation’s leadership, institutions, and steadfast positions remain its pillars of strength. He emphasized that safeguarding national interests remains the government’s top priority.
Regarding economic prospects, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in Jordan’s investment potential, stating that the country’s strong and promising economy is well-positioned to attract foreign investments and implement strategic projects in the coming year.
