AMMAN -
Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Thursday said the introduction of the National Security and Foreign Policy Council (NSFPC) under a constitutional amendment passed earlier by lawmakers will "guarantee and consolidate the party experiment", as he put it.

Shortly after the amendment to Article 122 of the Constitution won a majority vote of 102 MPs, the premier told the Lower House of Parliament that the Council will convene in cases of urgency, including "when hitting a dead-end related to the formation of a party-based government".
Also, according to the prime minister, the Council "will protect the various interests that make up the nation's fabric and its various political spectra." Khasawneh pointed out that the competencies to which the concept of "higher affairs related to security and foreign policy" does not apply are issues that the Council of Ministers usually discusses, just like any other issues.
