PSD spokesperson said that investigation teams' continuous
efforts led them to determine the whereabouts of the gunman, who was born in
1985 near the Balaama area in the northern governorate of Mafraq.
The spokesperson added that a security force besieged the
farm where the gunman was located. After refusing to surrender, he pointed his
gun toward his head and threatened to shoot himself.
Police attempted to negotiate with him, but he refused and
shot himself on the right side of the head, according to the initial medical
report. He was transferred to the hospital and placed in the intensive care
unit, unconscious with vital signs lost.
Continuous efforts were launched as soon as the crime was
reported, the spokesperson said.
The perpetrator’s gun was seized, and a team of criminal
laboratories collected evidence to conduct an investigation, the spokesperson
said, adding that the case will be referred to the appropriate judicial
authorities in accordance with the law.
PSD extended its sincere condolences to the victim's family,
colleagues, and the Jordanian society. The spokesperson also urged everyone to refrain
from publishing unreliable information surrounding the case and not to
re-publish what is circulated on social media unless it was issued by official
authorities.
Irsheid was killed by the gunman on Wednesday at the Applied
Science University in Amman. She was pronounced dead after being transported to
the hospital in critical condition.
